Beating Bill
Guest post of the week by Brittany Booker
I opened my gym over a decade ago in a market already heavily saturated with competition. In southern California, there’s no end to how much people will work out, so another gym was just a no-brainer in this area. I took all the necessary steps to make my gym a success and even hired a local marketing agency to help build hype, and business has never been better. Last year, I sold the gym to my longtime business partner Bill and we went our own ways. I’ve since decided to start up a small personal training studio, but therein lies the problem. Since Bill already knows the marketing tactics used to make our gym a success, he’ll also know how to keep my personal training studio from poaching his business. I was very careful this time around to be stealth in my marketing efforts, even going so far as to secure domain private registration when I purchased the website for my studio. I don’t think Bill’s caught on yet, and surely he will soon, but by then I’ll hopefully have a leg up on my friendly competition!
